Instructions: Read the supporting details in the paragraph outlines and type an additional supporting detail in the box.

Thesis: America is not a land of equal opportunities.

Body Paragraph I

Topic sentence: Women are not offered their share of opportunities.
  • Women are paid less than men.
  • There are few women in top managerial positions.
Body Paragraph II

Topic sentence: Minorities are treated unfairly.

    • Minorities are underrepresented in government and high paying jobs.
Body Paragraph III

Topic sentence: The poor are deprived of many opportunities.

  • The poor are offered fewer economic opportunities.
    • The hourly minimum wage is not enough to live on.
    • Schools in poor neighborhoods are often failing schools.
Conclusion: As long as this imbalance is not corrected and every citizen is not offered truly equal opportunities at least in some basic areas, it is difficult to maintain that the U.S. is a just society.
