Use BE before the present participle (-ing)
forms of verbs.
- Example: The police officer is interviewing the suspect.

Use BE before past participle forms of verbs when writing sentences in the passive.
- Example: The defendant was acquitted.

Use HAVE before past participle forms of verbs when writing sentences in the perfect tenses.
- Example: Maria has known José for a long
time.

• |
Use auxiliaries, such as do, or modals,
such as would, before the base form of the verb to make questions.
- Example: Why didn't Maribel come to the party yesterday?
