Lobbying the most common method of influencing public policy used by interest groups. Lobbying is the effort to convince lawmakers to support or oppose a certain bill.  Lobbyists, individuals who engage in this practice, also try to persuade members of the executive branch to favor a proposed policy that they desire, or to reject one that they disapprove of. Lobbyists are hired by interest groups, they come from different backgrounds. Most lobbyists are lawyers and public relations experts.  Many among them have previously served in Congress they currently work for large firms in Washington D.C.  Interest groups want to hire these ex-Congress members for their knowledge about the lawmaking process and their close personal relationship with important figures of government. In addition to lobbying, interest groups also make financial contributions to candidates running for public office. They try to gain more influence in government. By donating money to the campaigns of the candidates that they support.
