ASSIGNMENTS : Years 1 and 2 of the Forensic Science Program at John Jay

Students often spend about 16 hours each week working on science assignments at home.

The assignments include:

Reading your textbook (see example of a textbook page)

  • Every week you are assigned about 40 pages of textbook reading for each class and you need to memorize a lot of new terms and definitions
  • You also have to memorize graphs and visuals, such as graphs depicting the arrangement of electrons in a molecule
Solving chemistry problem sets (see example of a problem set)
  • Students can spend up to seven hours every week doing Online Web Learning (OWL) problems
  • You use mathematical skills and apply chemical formulas and rules to solve problems involving chemical combinations and reactions.
Completing lab reports (see example of a lab report)
  • You present data and your interpretation to persuade others to accept or reject a hypothesis.
  • Your lab report includes an abstract, an introduction, description of materials and methods, results, discussion of results, and a reference section.
